- Walter explains how they went through the corn kernels during the winter to choose seed corn for spring. He used a two-horse planter with a wire strung across the field. Buttons on the wire triggered the seeds to drop at intervals. They plowed rows, cross rows, and rows again, a planting method called "laying by the corn."
