CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Spoke about starting school in 1927 in small, one room country school at Ava and the teachers he had through those years. Teachers often stayed with families of children they taught, students liked the younger teachers but respected all of them. Lots of writing in the curriculum.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Spelling contests almost every Friday. Main sport at school was softball, especially between schools but baseball and hide & go seek also. Had Christmas programs & box lunch parties. These socials made a little money for the school.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
FAMILY
Discusses how if you got into disciplinary trouble at school it would be worse at home because the parents supported the teacher.
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Tells how the numbers in his class went from 12 - 18 down to three at the end as there were fewer and fewer farmers. Strict teachers, but some went sledding with students.
