FARM WORK
Looks at photographs and describes them. First is father shucking shock corn with sleds he made as a blacksmith. Barn was red & stored hay in loft. Dad built a drive through the middle of it. He made bins above that for storing beans, etc. An old sleigh is in the loft. Also big table that was in a store.
TOWNS
Bought yard goods at Shoft's (sp?) store and sewed a dress, or ordered it by catalog. Always had a flat tire going to town.
FARM WORK
Picture of group of men cutting oats with a binder. Flat wagon and pitchfork shocks onto it. Stacked so it won't get wet.
RECOLLECTIONS
Shoveling snow south of the house, used mules. Had snow every winter. Sledded on big hill beyond the cemetery. Memories of play. On own farm, early 1930s, road commissioners opened the road. Men building the railroad. They came to buy eggs. Story about getting sick from eating owls. Washing clothes in a basket with washboard. Lived in tents. Gypsies came every summer & camped outside town. Townspeople were wary of thefts. Also patent medicine sellers came by and gave shows.
