FAMILY BACKGROUND
Born in Mt. Vernon, IL on May 3, 1954 and moved to Central Illinois around the 4th grade. Enjoyed growing up in a small town, especially during Sept. 11, felt safe where she lived. Father was an architect-designed churches and schools. Linda got married and had three children. Linda's grandparents lived down the road. First child born in 1977, second in 1980, third in 1982.
EDUCATION
Says the interests she had in high school were indicative of what she would study in the future. Loved science, math and biological sciences; secretary of the science club. Enjoyed studying plants. Went to local junior college after high school, discovered she didn't like the business aspect. Went back to college around 1985 when youngest daughter was in nursery school. Major was in plant sciences. Certified teacher, can teach in Illinois. Got her master's at Eastern Illinois.
FOOD & MEALS
Had a large garden in her backyard growing up, full of vegetables. Would bag up manure from fair grounds to bring home for the garden. Did canning and freezing in high school.
CHILDHOOD WORK
Majority of chores around the house centered around the garden. Didn't enjoy working with manure. Husband worked in landscaping, but soon went back to his family farm.
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES
Mentions that her kids did soccer, t-ball, dance, etc. Says farm kids get to do things city kids couldn't do, such as ride 3 and 4 wheelers, shot a BB Gun, and ride fast tractors. Kids brought home snakes and stray cats.
