Monkey pox incident in pet shop from prairie dogs that caught it from Ghanaian rats. Describes the contagion and disease. Soybean rust is slow moving and may reach Illinois from the south. Asian Long Horn Beetle and Emerald Ash Borer arrived before he took over at Ag. Spent a lot working with federal government on those. Animal identification is important to trace animals who get sick. Livestock get moved around a lot and could get sick along the way. Need to trace their route to find the source of a disease. Inspect horticultural plants for insects. Homeland Security took over port inspections. Some countries are requiring Country of Origin labels - to even know who the farmer was and what the animal was fed. Some American farmers consider that Big Brother tactics for nothing.
