Admired Orion Samuelson. WGN cut the noon show. Orion appears several times a week. He wrote a letter to the management to reconsider. Found out the station wanted more money from programming. He thought that agribusiness would not sponsor station if a news reader said bad things about them. USDA, Department of Justice never answered his complaints about agribusiness.
FARM ORGANIZATIONS
His tenure was marked by increase in international markets. Tobacco was the first exported product from America. Balanced with other products later. Trade missions in Japan, China, and Russia in the 1970s. Ships and planes could take fresh meat around the world. Meat Export Association of Denver. Met President Reagan once. He and colleague met with Chairman of the Federal Bank about farm crisis caused by high interest rates. Went home and got a call from the Whitehouse. Steele reminded Reagan of his promise to balance the budget. One thing prevents that - entitlements. Steele thinks people need only opportunity, not entitlements.
