NON-FARM WORK
Continued discussion of work in the oil field. Story of rig ruining road & getting stuck in mud hole. Pulled out with caterpillar tractor, but loosing door in mud. More stories of being worked hard by company bosses regardless of weather, number of hours worked, or lack of food.
RECOLLECTIONS
Long discussion of poor farmers who had oil wells on their farms. Notes income for well owners, $500-$600/month. Story of one landowner using money to put in bathroom, but father wouldn't use indoor bathroom. Some landowners/farmers would treat oil workers well by paying them a bit of money, or buying them some clothes. Company would not give them fuel for wood-stove in field office, so he stole wood from rail fence nearby. Notes how poor farmers were in one oil field. Mention of pear orchards in an oil field. Mention of one man loosing his mind worrying over his oil money.
