HORSES
Discussion of how James' grandfather ran his horse team when plowing. They had larger horses (Belgian & mixed breeds) than most neighbors. Mentions a fellow named Mr. Brian who went out west to get horses & would bring them back to IL for sale. Farmer had to break the horses. These western horses were not as big, but in hot weather the could do more work. Some of these western horses could not be broken. Brother Harry brought horses home from rail yard. Cost was $10-$30 each. Brought to IL in cattle cars. No one would admit they ever met a horse they could not break. Tractors ended use of horses.
