- Nice set of stories & recollections. Describes house she shared with her grandmother, including straw-backed carpeting that had to be replaced occasionally. Mrs. Williams had organ lessons from woman who came to the house. Description of some of her favorite furniture. Description of a carpet stretcher & carpet beater. Mention of her housework chores as a child. Mention of other furniture in the house. Coal burning stoves in dining room, kitchen, & living room. Description of kitchen & where food items were stored. Also used corn cobs in stoves & later had a gas stove for the summertime. Coal oil lamps & how they were cleaned & cared for. Other childhood chores included cutting kindling, burning trash, & delivering milk (in a bucket). Grandmother told her to "walk tall." Cried when cows butchered.
