- No restrictions on exporting beef to Mexico. Not allowed to ship spinal column. South Korea beef producers are against American beef. Mad Cow not found in muscle cuts, such as steaks. Talks about animal identification, very emotional issue. Necessary because animals move from place to place. Right now have COOL--country of origin labeling. A lot of fear of Big Brother--fear of watching taxes and so on. Who's going to pay for it? Farmers? Consumers? Government? Originally was going to be mandatory. Now it's not going to work--4-H families with horses or steer. Too much to cover. 60 million hogs, 100 million cattle. Benefit for exporters--guarantee where meat came from. As long as Greenpeace is around, Europe won't take GMOs
