Father was Superintendent of Sunday School. Story about father's refusing "call" to be a preacher & that was reason for his never being able to prosper. Bert tells similar story about another fellow who refused "call" to be a preacher & also suffered until he became a preacher. Men's & women's Sunday school classes. Men & women also sat on opposite sides of church. Difficult to get preachers. Sunday school is teaching service of church. Relates his work as Sunday school teacher benefiting from his reading Bible at his telegraph office work. Recalls story about his blind teacher at Honey Bend with a Braille Bible who Bert helped prepare the Sermon. Had ice-cream suppers & big suppers on Thanksgiving & Christmas. Kids put on plays for Sunday school. Went to church once a month for sermon. Church couldn't afford a full-time preacher. Preacher from Shurtleff College in Alton held revival meeting. Bert recalls this preacher baptizing people in pond & being scared they would drown.
