FAMILY BACKGROUND
Introduces herself and parents and the farm on which she was born in 1912. Father built a new house on other side of farm. Location of water determines the best place to build. Road was lesser used than main one, but became the main one later.
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Walked a mile to Farmer's Point School to Musette Courtwright Brunnen's class (Brick school east of the Tallula Junction). As an only child, she was amazed to play with all the children, especially the large, older ones. Teachers were often recent graduates who stayed on to teach. Musette had one year of college and a natural talent. Interviewee credits her with her interest in nature studies. Went to high school in Petersburg. She had to live there with an aunt the first year. No buses, bad roads. Next three years she and a friend drove a car to school.
