1922 Minneapolis Steam Engine #8385

Chop the wood, build a fire in the steam engine, heat the water to steam, connect the belts to the thresher - you are now ready to thresh -- after you have gathered oat bundles with a horse-drawn binder, then hauled the bundles to the threshing area. Some farmers preferred to use coal as a fuel for the steam engine because of the risk of sparks from a wood fire catching the flying chaff on fire.
