BACKGROUND
Milton Lambert, born in 1919, about a mile from where they are today.
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Went to rural country school, then DeKalb Township High School, other random classes. Describes his grade school, their (his & other kids') attitudes toward it.
FAMILY
Had 3 sisters and a brother. Father, named George Lambert, also a farmer.
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Remembers Christmas programs in grade school. Families came to see it. Describes the rural school some more, big rooms, heating stoves. How many grades there were in the school.
LAND ACQUISITION
Started out by himself in 1942, renting land from an owner. Family ran their own farm.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Mother was born in the States, father was born in England. Raised corn, soy beans, oats, hay, also had livestock. Also gardened to supplement things. Survived off the land.
MARRIAGE
Got married in 1942. She was local too. They "went together" since high school, about 6 years. Discusses the war's impact, things got a little better every year.
LIVESTOCK
Had livestock for most of his farming years. Hogs. Had livestock until the last 10 years that he farmed. Labor for the livestock got to expensive and unreliable. Then did work himself with help from his wife.
