LAND
Bert tells story of going to find land to homestead in OK. He left IL because he wanted to farm & OK had government land available. Mentions going to land-office & seeing 100's of men there looking for land. Description of how land was marked in township & how Bert found a person (a "locater" to help him locate available land. Bert's "locater" was a grocer with good wagon, tent, bedding, & supplies needed for looking over land. Bert had to find 4 more people looking for land. Found German speakers from PA to join him. During trip Bert & PA fellows provided own "grub" & cooking. Another fellow, a school-teacher, joined them. Locater said they needed enough groceries for 1 wk of looking for land. Took eggs, bread, coffee, ham, etc.
