- Harold Steele was born in 1922 in Sublette, Illinois and grew up on the family farm his great grandfather established in 1873 in Dover, Illinois. Harold attended the University of Illinois and enlisted in 1942, serving in World War II in Europe, but returned to farming after the war and later becoming the President of Illinois Farm Bureau where he witnessed many changes over time, including hog confinement and increased efficiency.
