• Charles Shuman was born in 1906 in Sullivan, Illinois and grew up on his father's farm. Charles attended rural school but eventually graduated from the College of Agriculture of University of Illinois with his master's degree and ran his father's farm while active in the Moultrie Farm Bureau and President of the Illinois Agricultural Association Board for sixteen years.
