- REFLECTIONS
- Interviewer recalls a story about a farmer with a TV in the 1940s. Joanne did not miss having a TV as a child. Her younger children watched Sesame Street. She is not sold on TV.

- FAMILY
- Thinks oldest son wants to stick with trucking or farming. Joanne would prefer him not to because it is a hard life. Would like her children to go on to college but it is their choice. Encourages her freshman in high school to study hard even though he may not want to go to college and begin to figure out his future.
- REFLECTIONS
- Past experiences that were enjoyable. Going to The Dells with the kids and to Nashville on a bus trip. Finds herself now in a rut. Visiting her brother overnight. Farmers work until they can't work anymore. She does not see or plan for retirement in the future.
