FAMILY BACKGROUND
born in 1895 in Bath, Illinois. Moved to Havana at age three.
CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Started primary school at age six & finished eighth grade there (Bowman's school). Attended German Lutheran School three years in Matanza.
CHILDHOOD WORK
After schooling, she worked for her aunt doing housework for $.50 per week. Worked for Dad on farm, raising ducks; sold ducklings for a dollar each. When parents did not need her, she worked for a neighbor.
FAMILY
Married at nineteen; moved to Williams Homestead near Kilbourne, Illinois. Then moved to a farm in Easton as a tenant farmer. Returned to the Scheller place and Oakford (1945) after a public sale. Husband died in 1948. Had four sons. Hobby was cooking.
CHILDHOOD ACTIVITIES
Remembers childhood games of hide-and-seek, Ring-around-the rosy, and drop-the-handkerchief.

CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Bowman's was brick building; Lutheran school was church basement. Learned reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, and history. At Lutheran school they taught only the Catechism. Had only one male teacher. Story about playing with girls with dolls, no one could touch her doll. She hid others' pencils. Lost a coin purse in a buggy at age sixteen. A friend took it and gave it to her in church (joke).
