- "There was always something to do." Cows to milk, milk to be separated, milking equipment to be washed, cream to churn. Family sold cream. Butter made several times a wk. Discussion of different types of butter-churns & how they worked. Father built refrigerator [ice-box]. Ice stored in ice-house. Ice harvested in winter from neighbors ponds & lasted through the summer. Ice insulated with sawdust. Discussion of use of milk-trough to keep milk cool before refrigerator. Before milk-trough, milk kept cool by placing crocks in water in spring house. Mother got water from the spring. Later had a well dug. Kinsey Barr witched the well. Story of Barr telling them "I told you so."
