- When needed to make a big purchase, mother and father took turns. He bought wagon. Father never had a car. Brother got Model T at age 22, but dad in charge of who used it - for funerals - until he was 25. Dad afraid he would 'tear it up' or go 'bumming around.' Used a top buggy and horse to bum around.
