Discussion of impact of prohibition. "Foreign element ran the stills." "I think it was a good law." Attitude toward taxation on liquor today. Registered for draft but never called. "I don't believe in war." Did not effect farm prices. Late 1920's were boom times in farming. Then the crash & things were not worth anything. Lists prices of items during Great Depression. WPA helped economy & kept people from getting into trouble. Lists local WPA projects including digging out of hedge-rows, cleaning up streams, roads, etc. WPA workers from everywhere including a lot from Springfield. Story about going to town to get food for threshing meal & seeing government giving away better food than the grocer had available. "People today has forgot the word pride." Story of poor sending children to get government handouts for family & how as adults they now expect to be taken care of. "
