- Mentions thrill of first automobile, a 1916 Maxwell Touring Automobile. Later traded for an Oakland, then started driving Dodges. Mentions pulling cars out of mud with his mules.

- Winfred lost a friend who served on the Arizona. Mentions son registering for draft, but was not called and that was good because Winfred needed his son on farm. No restrictions on agricultural production. "…just produce all you could. The greatest weapon in the world is food."
