He played football and basketball & traveled to other towns for games by Model T, carriage, or Interurban. Mentions use of corn meal to stop Model T radiator from leaking. No dancing in schools. Wife interjects that kids snuck around to go dancing. Activities in Irvin Park included swimming, dancing, bath houses, picnics, bands. Does not remember much about WWI. Friends were too young.
HEALTH
Great Influenza epidemic in 1918. All family became very ill except him. The doctor said it was because he went skunk hunting and smelled.

He helped organize local fire district from nothing. Raised money for an engine and a tanker, served on board (1946). Recalls a fire. Problems with organizing fire district. Helped with school consolidation, too, against rural resentment about having to bus into town. Mentions people who helped with these projects.
