FARM WORK
Walter's father drained swampy land by tiling. A few men who dug the land for a living, dug the trenches and laid the tile. To fill up the ditches, they used a walking plow, a long pole across the ditch, and two horses to push the dirt back over the ditch. They sank the tile about 3 feet, just below the freezing line.
