- He bought a grain drill to plant wheat, the Havana Grain Drill. Another kind was made in Canton. They were never bigger than an eight-hole -- the holes eight inches apart. When he started planting he bought a disc drill with ten holes seven inches apart. A drill cost about $60.00.
