- MILLS
- Notes that many streams had mills before area became "settled up". One was called Torrence's Mill. Lots of mills in the area, where farmers could get corn ground for feed or corn meal, or flour from wheat. Mr. Herndon describes Torrence's mill which powered by stream water flowing on a turbine-like wheel. Mentions another mill on the North Fork of the Sangamon River. Jamestown (later called Riverton) had a mill with a distillery.
