CHILDHOOD WORK
the good chore was being in a baby back pack while father milked cows. Anything helping mother or father was a good chore. Cleaning pens or pulling weeds were bad chores. Notes on sibling rivalries. Notes girls always say that "those are boys jobs but boys would have to do things inside. Brothers and sisters are his best friends
NEIGHBORS
Once in college have a lot of interest from friends. The diversity of a livestock farm seems to interest a lot of people. City friends are always amazed at operation.
TOWNS
Majority of school population comes from rural background. Majority of parents that are not involved in rural life work in Springfield. Menard County is trying to change from a bedroom community for big towns like Springfield to a town with its own industry. Desire for an ethanol plant but not enough population to operate plant.
AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
First year joined the blue ribbon club, showed chickens lambs. Started their own family 4-H club. Developed the farm through the FFA. Took agriculture classes & had several livestock & crop projects. Also finished 2nd in a wildlife management project. Motivated by kid who beat him to raise pheasants, started with 200 and the next year he won the state and came in 3rd at the national level.
