- LIVESTOCK
- Talks about chickens and gathering eggs, how they wouldn't lay eggs in the winter. Then, when they got electricity, they warmed up the chicken coop and they would lay all winter. Had leghorns which were good layers & roosters for the hatchery. Bought cattle from TX. Had sheep. Had a pony and riding horse.
- HUNTING
- Enjoyed trapping. Caught a skunk. Couldn't use a rifle until he was twelve years old. Hunted mink, fox, muskrat, coons, etc. along the creek. Picture of him and his fox in DNR's Outdoors magazine.
- EDUCATION
- Brother made a good career out of farming, but Ray went into Engineering. Both got degrees from University of Illinois. Ray was in Chi Epsilon, the Civil Engineering honors.
- WORK
- Talks about his brother Clyde fighting over in Germany. Took part in the G.I. Bill. Taught short agriculture courses. Was on Brown's Tablet, which is upper 1% of your class. Judges at dairy shows.
