- CHURCH
- Went to Sunday School, then interest faded. Went to some Methodist church functions a few times.
- CHILDHOOD EDUCATION; Farms vs. Towns; College Education; Military Service
- FARM-RELATED WORK
- Worked for Soil Conservation Service (Natural Resources Conservation Service) for 30 years in several states. Illinois crops are somewhat different than other states. Some farmers are less eager to work with government than others. Former experience with government could alter your opinion. Conservation programs were voluntary and needed a trustworthy, knowledgeable person without arrogance. USDA employees don't have to be former farmers, but they need to learn all about it. Worked with erosion or flood control, air and water quality, wildlife habitat. Look at farm, ask about problems and objectives. Develop a plan with options. USDA helps with design and installation.
- MILITARY SERVICE
- Tells of volunteering, officer training, infantry, Korea. Saw some farming there.
