- FAMILY BACKGROUND
- Great grandfather bought farm in 1850. Handed down to sons, grandsons. Lloyd's parents bought it, then Lloyd and his wife. Great-grandfather, James, came to Alton as a freed man from Virginia. Was a harness-maker. Came from Missouri lead mining area in 1847 or so and settled nearby. Then bought 200 acres in 1850.
