- Tilapia grow fast, taste good, endure tough water conditions, spawn on a regular basis. Miles harvests eggs every two weeks. Tilapia are native of Africa and Israel, sometimes called the Jesus or St. Peter fish. Doesn't survive freezing. Can survive in brackish water but not saltwater. Miles harvests them when they are about a pound and a half.
