- TRANSPORTATION
- SOYBEANS
- Her father and grandfather argued about growing soybeans. One of her sisters used to go and sit naked in the soybeans where it was nice and cool.
- AGRO-CHEMICALS
- Sometimes they would spray DDT from a plane, mixed with water. They also would spray the crops from a helicopter with something that forces pollination.
- FOOD & MEALS
- Clarence Matthews was a herdsman who saw that the grain was not getting digested by the animals. He didn't want to buy a flattener so he invented a machine that partially cooked the grain and smashed it. Someone took them home and boiled them and put cheese on them. Clarence went into business with some other people who eventually bought him out. He felt he never saw enough money from his invention.
- REFLECTIONS
- Jackie sees people wanting to know where their food is coming from and shopping at farmer's markets. She thinks people aren't particularly happy and would be happy if they got their hands in the dirt and went back to the earth. People are worried about healthier food options that haven't been processed.
