FARMING DURING VIETNAM WAR
You had to go to college in the 1960s to avoid the draft. He was 21, married with no children. In July, 1966, received draft notice. Went to the draft board, asked to harvest crops first. Left for Ft. Leonard Wood, St. Louis, MO in December, Ft. Campbell, KY, and then Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX; became a medic. Tells about army experience. Spent time in Vietnam as senior medic. Describes triage experiences; applied for an early out of 90 days for agriculture exemption and got it. Brother worked his farm; house rented out. Experience mad him cynical about government.
