- Illinois first in pumpkin production. Tried to legislate on marketing as legislator and in Ag Department. Was on education, appropriation, transportation committees. Considered running for US Congress to replace Glenn Poshard; formed a committee; spent three days in Washington. Came home and decided against it because it was too cold and big. Most proud of help for agriculture. There are 73,000 farm families in Illinois. There are 8-9 good legislators for farming. One of four jobs is related to agriculture. It takes a good manager and lots of other skills today to be a farmer.
