- Currently 700,000 beef producers in US. Eight per cent of them raise 60 per cent of cows. Therefore, 92 per cent grow 40 per cent of the cows. Need lots of land. Most of Illinois beef raisers are in western Illinois along rivers and in timber lands, not in grain soils.
