- GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS
- In 1862 the Morrow Act established Land Grant Colleges. Each state has a land grant university - here it's University of Illinois. In 1914, Smith-Lever Act set up the Agricultural Extension Service, the ag agent. Then the Home Ec Advisor. It assisted farmers and housewives to adapt technology. Increase yield. Local extension is a partnership with state and federal funds.
- FARM-RELATED WORK
- Spent 65% of his time in the swine area. Changes have occurred. Swine has consolidated from 35,000 pork farms to 2800. Larger operations. Same in all livestock. Now spends 90% of his time in cattle. Cow-calf, stocker, finishing.
