FAMILY BACKGROUND
Born April 13, 1939, 68 years old. Grandfather came to the area from KY in 1889 when he was 17 years old.
LIVESTOCK
Show pigs most of the time. Showed at the local county fair, never at the state fair.
EDUCATION
Went to school all twelve years, but no kindergarten when he grew up. Graduated from high school in 1957, went to Western Illinois University and got a degree in Ag. And Business. Had a scholarship that took care of all the tuition.
NON-FARM WORK
Started substituting in 1960 for his ag. Teacher, Glenn Willard, who was working on his Masters and was gone in the summer. Subbed from 1963-1966 for the ag. Teacher, as well as some other classes. Taught full time for one semester. Sold life insurance for Mutual Fund in 1961, then got drafted in Jan. 1962 and joined the U.S. Army Reserves.
LAND ACQUISITION
Explains why he chose to farm. He grew up farming. His aunt asked him if he would help his uncle with the crops. Uncle sold him his farm in 1972.
