- FAMILY BACKGROUND
- Rick Collins was born July 16, 1972 in Highland, IL. He has a sister, Theresa, who is seven years younger. One set of grandparents are still alive and the other set have died. His dad's family came from Chicago and his mom's family from St. Louis. His grandparents came from Italy, Germany, and Ireland. When Rick was about 11 he started working on local farms. When he started putting up hay he made $2.00. When he started milking cows he made $5.50. He would milk Holsteins, milking Shorthorns, Gurneys, and Brown Swiss. His favorite job was scraping manure at the end of the day, it allowed him to think. He did not enjoy detasseling. He had a friend who lived a few miles away. They would hang out and work on cars and build things. Rick also did Boy Scouts, was on the wrestling team, and participated in musicals and plays.
- EDUCATION
- Rick commuted to a private high school in Peoria. He attended this school because his dad did not think the local high school had enough college prep classes. Both his parents graduated with teaching certificates from SIUE. Rick went to U of I and majored in forestry after once attending Eastern Illinois University.
- ACTIVITIES
- Did Boy Scouts, wrestling, and musicals and plays.
