- Mr. Nelson notes that 90 years ago the Illinois Farm Bureau was created. Out of the need for insurance came the Country Companies (now Country Financial) Insurance. Out of the need for supplies came the Grow-Mart system. Prairie Farms Dairy was created out of the need for marketing dairy products, and has been very successful. The Illinois Agriculture Auditing Association rounds out the Illinois Farm Bureau. Country Companies was created for rural communities, particularly farmers, to get insurance of different types (crop, equipment, life, etc.). They also offer services for urban areas. Crop insurance is a federal program, meant to protect farmers from catastrophic losses. The three big I's (IA, IL, IN) are net losers in crop insurance.
