CHANGES IN FARMING METHODS
Orion has been to China 10 times in the past thirty years. China is a different country every time Orion goes back. Cities have the biggest changes. Talks about Shanghai and the changes there. Still don't see a lot of mechanization on farms. Farms are still collective farms. Farms are filled with ditches that irrigate or take water away, so they can't use big machinery without restructuring farmland dramatically. As an effect of explosion of economy, Chinese have developed a demand for meat, mostly pork and poultry. What we consider waste they eat, such as heads and feet of chickens.
COMMODITY PRICES
Ethanol can be taken out of corn, then can still be used for animal feed and corn sweetener. No food is being taken from hungry people. We also have enough technology to increase production to meet demand. The real reason for the increase in food production is oil, but no one wanted to say that. Talks about the oil market and the prices of agriculture goods. Talks about the peak of oil and predictions of the future. All commodity prices went up.
