GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS
Tracing animals is important to trace back diseases and outbreaks to an animal or place. It's important to know where an animal has been and who has been exposed. Right now there is COOL--Country of Origin Labeling. Many animals are born in U.S., grown and fed in Canada, and returned to the U.S. for slaughter. Farmers are skeptical of registering their locations and how many animals they have. Big Brother mentality is fear of Washington watching them for reasons other than tracking. Other concerns include who is paying for it, farmers, government or consumers.
