HISTORY
At the Illinois State Fair, there is a timeline of the fair's history and history of the US. In 1853 the fair started. In 1894, the first permanent state fair was held in Springfield. In 1921 the first women's car race was held. 1949 the IL governor was Adlai Stevenson. In 1961 John F. Kennedy was elected President and killed two years later. 1963 Lyndon B. Johnson became President. In 1984 the first Twilight Parade is held the night before the fair opens. In 1990 the Orr building opened, where smaller livestock is shown. In 2001 the president was George W. Bush.
