FARM EQUIPMENT
Sam shows the 1922 Minneapolis steam engine. Wood is used as fuel to heat the water. Sometimes they use coal, which burns hotter and lasts longer. The engine weighs 15 tons. The wheel at the top turns which powers whatever you are running, in this case the thrasher. The belt is made of nylon and leather. The twist in the belt prevents it from slapping. This model has steel wheels so you have to put down planks whenever you want to move it. The steam engine has a steam release that pops off so it can only build up so much pressure. Temperature inside the boiler is about 400 degrees, when the pressure is 125 pounds. The machine was acquired from a man "out west" named Rick Eisler.
