- Bring in young people to pick. To pick the peaches they use bags that open at the bottom. The refrigerated freight car was invented in Cobden because it was the largest fruit producing area in the United States, before California and Georgia. They shipped peaches, strawberries and daffodils. The peach is fragile so you have to pick with your whole hand. The stem comes off because it is extremely short.
