- At big fairs they are required to use leather halters and the tinkling of the chain calms them down, too. There is a separate showmanship category that judges how the people handle the animal. Grand Champion Heifer or Grand Champion Steer is the most prestigous. On the last day they switch animals and show animals they haven't shown before. The biggest show they get involved in is the Du Quoin Fair. The Illinois State Fair is a big one, too. Dianna displays her ribbons in her bedroom. They auction off the steers to raise money for 4-H. Her sister has a favorite bull she talks to every night.
