- FARMHOUSE
- Biggest changes in women's farm lives have been electric stoves versus wood, easier washing, do not raise chickens, only a small garden, vacuum cleaners. Housecleaning is constant rather than seasonal.
- ACTIVITIES
- Used to be a community club that everyone attended and pinochle club that 14-16 people attended. Church had some activities. School's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was active. Whole community participated in church and school activities. Helped form and was first president for the first Home Bureau in Menard County. Home Bureau was about doing new things with what was already in a household. Women's employment increased so attendance decreased, but recently it has increased again. It is a social and homemaking club; foods, household furnishings, and general home life. Home Bureau has extended to town families. People are not as restricted to their houses as they were.
