- NON-FARM WORK
- He joined the Home Guard. Quit insurance company as general manager for area of state with secretary in charge. Field Artillery Training School in Louisville. He loved horses, so wanted artillery. He graduated but end of war was near. He was called back at age 56 but too old for artillery action. While in reserves worked in insurance as general agent.
- TRANSPORTATION
- Rode train to work. First car was a Ford with crank starter. Later he traded land for car with self-starter. Notes deal made to buy a new car every year for one quarter of its price and trade-in for eight years. Always bought Oldsmobile's.
