RECOLLECTIONS
Father spoke with neighbor about telephones and mail routes in 1898. Recalls the first mail carrier. Telephone line went from Beardstown to Sunday school superintendent's house. Father was born in 1864 and moved to hill in 1857. Older children were born in the chapel. Front of house is new.
FAMILY BACKGROUND
Discusses distant relatives. Parents worked in distilleries at first in the area. Discusses Scotland. Dunn is as common a name in England as Smith is in the US, and many Dunns migrated to Scotland. President of Illinois Department of Labor was from Scotland and once asked Mr. Dunn about his parents. Thinks ancestors were on a boat for 6 weeks to get to America. Grandfather spoke English well with a light accent. Aunt was best educated of the family. Horroms were the first family in the area and came from Dearborn County in IN in March of 1829.
