- FARMING METHODS
- Description of how he planted corn with horse-drawn equipment. Explains checking corn, that is, planting it in two directions (a checked pattern) so weeding was easier. Used a planter with a wire that tripped and put seed in about 33"-36".
- CROPS
- Most corn grown was yellow; used several brands of seed or own seed. White corn also grown. Plan to plant by May 10, when ground was warm. Story about Indians demonstrating that. In the ground by Decoration Day (May 30).
- FARMING METHODS
- Ten acres a day was a lot for two teams of men. Heat go to horses. Sons have 8-row machinery now. Rolled ground after planting seed if cloddy. Had to smooth it out when dry.
